These pages list some members of the GICS group who have been kind enough to share their experiences on our website as a help to others who may be interested. All are happy to talk to new members about their experiences with GI Cancers. All members are contactable through the GICS group. If you wish to talk to someone who has gone (or is going) through a similar experience to your own, please email or telephone using the contact details for the group at the bottom of the HOME page.

Bowel Cancer Diagnosed in 2005
I was diagnosed with Bowel Cancer in 2005.
My GP was treating me for piles but after about six months he decided to refer me for a flexible Sigmoidoscopy.
When the results came back I was told that (instead of haemorrhoids) I had a carcinoma, an invasive malignant tumour, in my colon.
It was a great shock to us all. This all happened just one week before our son’s wedding. Of course, I did not want to tell him until after the wedding but in the end I did.
Within four weeks I was in hospital having my op by keyhole surgery. Everything happened so quickly, but I was very pleased about that.
After my op it took about a week before I began to feel better and to fancy something to eat. On the Saturday morning I really fancied tomatoes on toast for breakfast and a lovely nurse on the ward ordered them from the canteen for me. That was my best meal ever.
